Quality beef, locally raised and finished the way it used to be, using humane and sustainable management, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
Jimmy Rider is a 9th generational farmer whose family has been farming in Virginia since the mid-1600s. His maternal family were also multigenerational farmers and orchardmen. Robin Rider, retired from a medical practice, now works full time alongside Jimmy on the farm. They are dedicated to farming in a sustainable and healthy way, preserving the land and environment at the base of Old Rag Mountain in Etlan, Virginia, where their beef graze on hill and valley pastures. The farm was founded in 2009, as indicated by the copyright date on the website. They aim to provide genuinely tasty, affordable, healthy, and locally produced beef raised as gently and humanely as possible, reminiscent of how beef used to be raised years ago. They purchase young beef stock/calves from local neighboring farms and raise them for up to 2 years, ensuring they are always on green grass pastures and never confined in a feed lot. They are BQA (Beef Quality Assured) certified in their farm management. They do not feed antibiotics or implant hormones, except for targeted antibiotic use if an individual steer becomes ill, working closely with their local veterinarian. They maintain an in-depth health record on all beef purchased and raised on their farm. They are committed to being the best stewards of their land, farm, and livestock. They believe that healthy beef and healthy land truly mean healthy people. Robin is exceedingly proud of her husband, his ability to manage their beef gently and humanely, and the farm(s) that they maintain. She feels confident that the beef produced on their farm is unbelievably healthier and tastier than anything one can get from traditional sources. They personally hand feed their steers daily in poly-feeders on pasture, no matter their age, to ensure their beef stay happy and healthy and to spot any pr
