ABOUT THE FARMABOUT TRANSPLANTS ORDER PRODUCE and PLANTS Family-Owned Farming Since 1995 Calvert’s Gift Farm is a 7 acre certified organic fruit and vegetable farm located in Sparks, Maryland.  Established in 1995 by Jack and Beckie Gurley, the farm continues to produce high quality, organic fruits and vegetables season after season. We have been continuously certified organic through the Maryland Department of Agriculture, which is accredited by the National Organic Program. The National Organic Program (NOP) has strict standards that must be met in order to become certified.  Calvert's Gift Farm utilizes extensive crop rotations, minimizes off farm inputs and relies almost entirely on natural systems to produce safe, healthy food in an environmentally sound way.  Our three high tunnels ensure nearly year round food production and because we don’t rely on a lot of heavy equipment, our fields are easily accessible, even under the harshest conditions.  The majority of our crops are hand planted, hand cultivated and hand harvested.  Because of our small size, we are able to maintain strict attention to detail in every aspect of our operation. Whole, real food, grown for the home chef and adventurous eater in all of us. We believe that a great meal doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs great ingredients.  Overly processed food, no matter how many vitamins and minerals have been added post harvest, lack the life force that our produce still retains.  “Fresh” produce that travels across the country has lost much of its vital nutrients. Modern industrial agriculture systems have not only created a huge disconnect between the farmer and the consumer, but the mass aggregation and over handling of products has led to an increase in food borne illnesses.  We believe in growing high quality, nutrient dense , chemical free produce.  We pick our produce at its peak of ripeness and bring it directly to our customers. Unlike many other CSA’s and farm stands, we sell only what we grow. we are committed to passing along the knowledge of responsible organic farming to our future. Calvert’s Gift Farm serves as a mentor for Future Harvest- CASA’s Beginner Farmer Training program.  Established in 2009, the BFTP trains new and aspiring farmers in sustainable methods.
