In 1970, Murray Cohen, a Chicago native with an agriculture degree, was determined to be an organic farmer. In 1972, the Cohen family purchased the land, and Murray developed his concept of "clean raised beef" for those sensitive to chemicals in commercial beef. Cohen Farm is committed to sustainable agricultural practices and humane animal care, placing 102 acres into a permanent conservation easement in 2012 with Triangle Land Conservancy to ensure it remains agricultural land.
