Anyone who walks onto our flower farm sees that CC’s Blooms is a special place! Decorated with artistic elements and sculptures, it is an environment of beauty where we enjoy the hours we spend growing what we love: FLOWERS! Multiple times a week, we harvest flowers to ensure that the freshest blooms go into our arrangements. Our flowers reflect the natural beauty of the changing seasons and the passion that we have for spreading joy to all we serve. Our flowers are grown, not flown, arranged and delivered with love. Our farm was originally part of Hidden Valley Orchard, before the property was purchased and developed into a 10 acre homesite. Ten years ago, after living in England for three years, we came back to the U.S. in search of land that we could organically farm. It was difficult to find property that was not surrounded by large, GMO farmers, but we knew that was a must so that we could safely grow our crops without having to worry about pesticides floating over them. All of the apple trees had been removed before we bought the property and the land was a clean slate. No gardens or flowers were present, so what you see now has been created and developed in that period. We started by planting fruit and nut trees – apple, pear, peach, plum, cherry, lemon, avocado, paw paw, quince, and hazelnut – because those took the longest to bear fruit. Along with those, we planted, and are growing, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and elderberries. We then concentrated on vegetables and herbs, but also started growing flowers for our own pleasure. With Carol’s background in art and teaching; you will see many hand-made sculptures that we created together. Setting off each of these sculptures, we started planting flowers to accent the sculptures. Many people commented on how beautiful the flowers were and desired to have some for their own homes. This led us on the path to begin predominantly growing and selling flowers. We grow a wide variety of flowers – annuals as well as perennials – and tend to focus on flowers that are more of a specialty like roses, dahlias, lisianthus, lavender, cosmos, ranunculus, gomphrena, strawflowers, iris, and many more. We grow over 100 varieties of dahlias. One of the more unusual features that people will notice when visiting our farm is a number of large swales that we installed. The property slopes quite a bit from south to north, and the swales are designed to catch the water that is running across the property for use in irrigating the plants. We also retain our scraps and cuttings to be used as compost and added back into the soil. Realizing that we needed to be growing flowers all year round, we completed a 16’ x 20’ greenhouse in the back of the house, at the end of 2019. The greenhouse has passive and active solar features, as well as an underground climate battery. Since then we have added another greenhouse and now a high tunnel. In 2020, we installed The Bloomin’ Barn, a 24’ x 50’ pole barn, where we take the cut flowers to be finished for bouquets and other arrangements. The inside of the barn is finished with 150 year old oak barnwood panels. Our walk-in cooler, used for keeping the flowers cold and fresh, is housed in the back of the barn. We also use the barn for classes and workshops; see our website: ccsblooms.square.site for more information about our classes and our floral selections. We also installed 24 solar panels on the south roof of the barn that will allow us to harness the sun’s energy to provide close to 75% of the electrical needs of the property. With this, and our propane-powered back-up generator, we are moving to becoming substantially self-sufficient. In 2024, we started bee-keeping, with 4 hives. They make a huge difference in pollenating the flowers, and provide us with wonderful honey to use and sell.
