With fifteen years of experience, we’ve got you covered. Stop out to the farm late April through June for all of your garden starts, from Certified Organic vegetable and herb plants to a full line of annual bedding plants and hanging baskets. Or visit us at the Sun Prairie or Dane County Farmer’s Markets July-March for Certified Organic produce. Check our our full line of Certified Organic Vegetable and herb plants for sale in our retail greenhouse. Online pre-ordering available starting in March! We also offer a seed rack from High Mowing Organic Seeds. We have a full line of annual bedding plants for both sun and shade. All plants are grown from seed here on our farm. We do not spray any chemicals, instead we use beneficial insects and other cultural controls to manage pests and plant diseases. Interested in flats of vegetables or herbs? Have a hard to find plant you would like us to grow from seed? We can grow it for you! Visit us at the Sun Prairie Farmer’s Market or the Dane County Farmer’s Market. For locations, days of the week and market times check out the button below! Produce is available starting early July until early April. We offer many different kinds of veggies, but we are known for our potatoes, winter squash, onions and shallots. Check out our fifteen varieties of dried beans! Beans will be available starting at the Dane County Farmer’s Market’s Holiday Market at the Monona Terrace in November. We will bring them to every market until we are sold out! We have multiple hives here on our farm to help pollinate our crops. Although not certified because we can’t guarantee where our bees have flown, we manage our hives without the use of chemicals. Purchase some of our wonderful honey at our market booth all season long or at our retail greenhouse in Spring! Volunteer your time and energy for plants and produce! Our popular workshare program gives hands on experience and an opportunity to ask all of your farming related questions. Contact us for more information for the 2024 growing season! Want to get a head start on your garden? Check out our online store to place your order! “I have done a worker CSA share shift at Burr Oak Gardens for 3 seasons and words cannot express what a pleasure it is to know Kate and Tyler and contribute to a family farm that truly cares about feeding our community and stewarding the land! Favorite highlights include: the satisfaction (and leg workout) of a well-weeded row of peppers, their stellar potatoes, communing with bees during the honey harvest, the peaceful quiet and birdsong of being out in the fields, and witnessing the beautiful seasonality of a diversified veggie farm.” ~Jill G. As of July, 2015 all of our fields are now USDA Certified Organic. Since we started farming in 2010 we have gone above and beyond the NOP guidelines. We do not spray any chemicals, even those approved for organic use. Instead we use extensive crop rotations, cultural controls, biocontrol methods like releasing parasitoid wasps to control cabbage moths, and selection of more disease resistant varieties of vegetables. We do not plant into plastic because we would rather hoe than add waste to the landfill each year. Since we began the transition process back in 2011 to become certified organic we have worked closely with MOSA. Each year an agent comes to our farm to inspect our fields, growing structures, and our records to renew our certification. We have an Open Door Policy for all of our members and all of the records and a tour of our fields are available at any time. For more information on our certifying agent you can go to theirwebsite. In 2019 we became members of the Dane County Farmer’s Market (DCFM). You will see us vending every Wednesday from May through early November, and on Saturdays in May and early June. We also vend at the Holiday Market at the Monona Terrace and at the Late Winter Market at Garver Feed Mill. In 2023, Kate was voted onto the Board of Directors for the DCFM for a three year term. If you have any questions about the market, please reach out and we will answer to the best of our ability, or help guide you to the right resources. In 2021 we applied and were accepted to become Real Organic Project certified. All of our produce is certified through this non-profit as being Certified Organic and grown directly in the soil. This certification does not apply to our annual bedding plants as we do not try to certify those plants as USDA Organic. For more information check out theirwebsite! In 2022, we joined the Sun Prairie Farmers’ Market. We typically vend May through mid-June with our retail plants. Then we take a break for a few weeks to tend to our fields before we return with produce mid-July. We vend all the way to the end of the market the last Saturday in October. This is one of our favorite markets to attend. There are frequent events, live music, and a very relaxed atmosphere.
