We're Adam Barr and Rae Strobel, a seventh-generation family farm in Rhodelia, KY. Adam's family has stewarded this land since 1835 — our kids Cedar, Hazel, and Sylvan are the eighth generation. We raise USDA Certified Organic vegetables (about 40 varieties on 25 certified acres), 100% grass-fed grass-finished beef from our 30-head cow/calf herd, 2,000 pasture-raised broiler chickens each year, pasture-raised pork, and eggs from 250 laying hens housed in a mobile "egg-mobile" — a converted school bus that moves across our 260 acres. We don't use chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. We nourish our soil with on-farm compost, cover crops (annual rye grass, buckwheat, hemp), and biochar — nutrient-infused charcoal based in African and indigenous soil-building traditions that stabilizes nutrients for generations. We use plant sap analysis to assess nutrient availability and drip irrigation with water harvesting from our high tunnels. In 2021 we went solar for our pack shed and meat freezers. We sell through our customizable 24-week CSA (weekly or bi-weekly), two Louisville farmers markets (Douglass Loop Saturdays, Phoenix Hill Tuesdays), and Whole Foods Louisville. We also partner with New Roots, an equitable food justice CSA with sliding-scale pricing. We recognize this is the ancestral lands of the Cherokee, Osage, and Shawnee peoples. Our intention is to steward this land in a just way — growing healthy soil, healthy plants, healthy animals, healthy people, and healthy communities.
Barr Farms is a seventh-generation family farm in Rhodelia, KY, with Adam's family stewarding the land since 1835.
