Morning Star Ranch

Morning Star Ranch is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2020. Each year, they offer services free of charge to hundreds of children in need, focusing on at-risk, underserved, or disadvantaged children ages 4 to 15 in Erath and surrounding counties. The ministry uses Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) to help children gain confidence and develop life skills through interaction with horses, promoting educational, professional, and personal growth through equine-assisted activities. Their mission is to touch children's lives through engagement in the western lifestyle and faith-based riding programs, creating a safe place for them to learn life skills by opening their hearts to horses. They also host Horse Camps in Spring and Summer and a Star Gala as a premier fundraising event. They rely on donations and volunteers to operate and are raising money for a new barn. The ranch is also an official Community Service Site for school, county and church programs. They offer a limited number of paid riding lessons to the public, as space allows, for $30/lesson/rider. They provide the horse, equipment, and helmets, but western style riding boots are required. They have a limited selection of boots on hand in case a child does not have them. Riding lessons are typically late afternoon/evening during the week. They also offer a Wrangler Summer Program, Community Events & Field Trips, and Weekly Lessons for At-risk Youth. The program is open to at-risk or disadvantaged children ages 4-12, with participation through referral or application, and there is no fee for the faith-based riding program. The program goals include improved academic performance, sequencing, time management, caring for others, communication, riding skills, balance and coordination, increasing core strength, and improved gross and fine motor skills.
