It all started when our oldest turned out to be allergic to cow's milk and soy — but could tolerate goat's milk just fine. We figured it would be so much easier to have our own herd. Turns out it isn't, but it is definitely a lot more fun! We raise ADGA registered Purebred Nubian dairy goats on 5000 Whitethorne Road in Blacksburg, VA. Our herd is based on the Kismet Nubian line from Pearisburg — big, strong dairy girls with excellent conformation and amazing will to milk. Does in milk get small amounts of locally milled grain and non-GMO alfalfa; meat goats get no grain at all. Everyone is rotationally grazed on diverse pasture, moving onto new forage weekly. Our heritage poultry — Salmon Faverolles, French Black Copper Marans, Khaki Campbells, Welsh Harlequins, and Muscovies — range free on our organically managed pastures, protected by our livestock guardian dogs, with locally milled grain as needed. We also keep treatment-free bees and raise pastured pigs supplemented with sprouted grain fodder. We offer raw goat milk herdshares, pastured duck and chicken eggs (also carried at Annie Kay's and Eats Natural Foods), seasonal pastured meats, hatching eggs, and handmade goat milk soaps and lotions — completely free of parabens, formaldehyde, petroleum products, SLS, and artificial colors or fragrances.
The farm started because the owner's oldest child was allergic to cow's milk and soy but could tolerate goat's milk, leading them to get their own goat herd. The farm also raises heritage poultry and keeps bees.
