Connect with the food you eat by meeting your farmer and exploring the farm. Know where your food comes from We have transformed our crop rotation system to 100% grass based regenerative practices – rotational grazing of our cattle – letting them harvest & fertilize the fields as they are moved from paddock to paddock. Regenerative agriculture prioritizes soil health, biodiversity, and natural processes by reduced tillage to improve soil health, conserve water, and promote biodiversity. We can produce healthier, more resilient crops while also restoring ecosystem health and promoting a more sustainable food system. “We want to let you know that everything went very smooth with our 1/4 of beef that we got and want to let you know also that it tastes wonderful as we have had a roast, steaks and some hamburger and are enjoying it very much.” “We’ve tried several cuts of beef thus far and the quality is terrific. Everything has been delicious! Both animal care and the quality of the food we eat are very important to us and we are grateful to have wonderful farmers that provide both so close to home. “ “Valley Springs beef is incredible! So delicious, we have now gone 2 years in a row driving up from Chicago to pick up a half a cow to split with friends and each year more people want in. The price can’t be beat and Dorothy and Don run a gorgeous family farm with happy cows. Highly recommend it!” Leave us a review on Facebook →
Donald and Dorothy Harms have operated Valley Springs Farm for the past 35 years. Donald is the fourth generation of the Harms family to run this farm as a dairy. Attention to detail and a love for dairy cattle have helped them earn recognition as Sauk County’s highest production Holstein herd several times in their dairy career. It is with the same love and passion that Don & Dorothy care for their growing herd of Grass Fed and Grass Finishedbeef cattle. Dorothy’s love of gardening and cooking was the initial start of living the dream of operating a bed and breakfast. As you enjoy the flower gardens decorating their farmstead or visit the vegetable garden and orchards to see what is in season, they are all a labor of love for Dorothy. She is certified as a Master Food Preserver so canning and freezing the garden produce is her specialty. Dorothy’s Homemade Delights (homemade jams and jellies)are available for purchase during your stay. Community involvement has been an integral part of their lives. Giving back to the community that supports them, Donald and Dorothy have both served on local agricultural co-operative boards, government boards, and as 4-H leaders. They support their local rural economy partnering with their neighboring farms & rural businesses during the Hill & Valley Exploration Tour in September. Their efforts with the Farmer Angel Network provide resources & education to farm families putting a spotlight on rural mental health. Dorothy currently serves on the Wisconsin Agri Tourism Assn. board to promote agritourism as a source of value added income to save family farms. Each December, Valley Springs Farm welcomes their beef customers to help them donate deliciousgrass-fed ground beefto their local Food Pantry as a way to give back to those who need good food most.
