The farm's name, Munkebo, comes from the birthplace of the owner's great-grandmother in Sweden. The family has a rich history, with relatives still living on the original farm built in 1906. The owner's great-grandfather, Benght Swenson, was an early Swedish settler in Texas, initially working as a blacksmith and later at a sugar factory before retiring in Round Rock. The family's history in Sweden dates back over 200 years, with stories passed down through generations. The owner reconnected with Swedish relatives in 2009 through old letters, visiting the family farm that was a dairy until 1994 and now raises timber. The great-grandmother was known for her cooking and traditional Swedish crafts, using locally grown wool and flax. The family also participates in a hunting club, with moose being a traditional meal. The area in Sweden is also where Swen M Swenson, famous for encouraging Swedish immigration to Texas, hailed from. The owner's great-grandfather paid his own way to Texas and settled in Sugarland, later retiring in Round Rock, which had a large Swedish population. He is mentioned as one of the early families to settle in Round Rock. The farm's philosophy is to adhere to Permaculture methods, with a goal of being organically certified and a closed-loop system, growing all animal feed on-site. They use compost tea, green manure, and cultivate the soil/food web to bring fertility to the soil. The farm is located in the Posy Oak Savanna bio-region in Eastern Travis County near Webberville. They raise Piedmontese and Piedmontese-Angus cross cattle, known for increased muscling and tenderness, and feral stock hogs, known for better feed efficiency, rooting ability, smaller adult size, and less fat. They raise an abundance of vegetables and fruit, using no chemicals, not even organic-approved, and focus on heirlooms, rare, and unusual varieties. Summer salad greens include magenta spreen and sweet potato leaves. Fruit includes Seville oranges, wild lemons, figs, p
