Welcome home at R Corner Ranch! Enjoy the special touch of farm life and feed your soul a little sunshine. I'm Emily Reed, and I breed quality Nubian goats, Nigerian Dwarf goats, Mini Nubians, and poultry in Silex, Missouri (near Troy, MO).
Friendly Nigerian Dwarfs are like medium sized dogs. While being super cute and huggable, they are a nice size for handling, working with, and housing. We got started with goats in the summer of 2020 with Cowboy/Heracles and Leprechaun from Lazy Acres Lane. Then we got 2 does (Shamrock and Treasure) and 2 doelings (Bambi/April May and Blizzard). I have retained two bucks so far (Pumpkin and Fable). The rest of the Nigerian goats are kids from the original six and their kids!I kept Pumpkin Spice after losing his Treasure. It was a struggle to try to save her, and I learned the hard way that we are their first line of defense to treat and save them. I was disappointed by the lack of vet care for goats compared to dogs. There is still so much not known. Treatments may or may not work. One thing is for sure, loving owners will try all they can do with every bit of knowledge they gain. It is up to you to learn and be prepared as best as you can before/while you work with a local vet. I am so grateful to have Pumpkin as a parting gift. As for, Fable, he is just a beautiful, calm dude. I am expecting great things from my boys. We look forward to meeting you and discussing Nigerian Dwarf goats. Thanks for your interest in my herd! Even higher butterfat Nigerian Dwarf goat milk has 6-10% average butterfat. Nubians have higher than other dairy breeds with an average butterfat of 4.5% or higher. For reference, most dairy cows have a butterfat of 3%. Although Guernsey cows and Jersey cows can average nearly 5%. Nigerian Dwarfs can milk 2 quarts a day, though many people have goats that produce a gallon. Shamrock is easily able to feed triplets and keep them plump. I believe she could well-feed quads if she had them. Pretty good, Shammy! Nigerians are silly goofballs. They can be very active with those little legs. Despite their size, Nigerians can make a lot of rich milk. Nigerians commonly have multiples more than other breeds.
