Drew and I were living in a shoebox apartment in Queens when we discovered sustainable agriculture in the form of pastured meats. We wanted our food to be humanely raised and to nourish our bodies without taking from the land. After years of reading farm books and watching Youtube videos, we made the leap. We packed our apartment and our cat into a moving truck, moved South and raised our first laying flock in 2016 on our farm in South Georgia. We use humane and sustainable farming practices to ethically produce pasture-raised eggs, poultry, and forest-raised pork. Our happy laying hens are completely free-range out on pasture, where they enjoy sunshine and fresh air while foraging for bugs and plants, which is key to the vibrant color and flavor of the eggs. Our meat birds live in mobile, outdoor hoop coops where they are moved every day onto fresh pasture. The fresh plant forage makes for a healthy, flavorful meat. Chicken that actually tastes like chicken! Our heritage Gloucestershire Old Spot, Berkshire and Duroc hogs are raised primarily in the woods where they can forage for nuts, mushrooms and other plant matter, play in mud, and fully express their hog-ness. We supplement our chicken’s diet with a premium non-GMO feed that contains absolutely no antibiotics, hormones, artificial additives or preservatives and is free of herbicides and pesticides.
