Rudd Farm is a fourth generation Guilford County farm in Greensboro, NC. It started as a tobacco farm by Kenneth’s grandfather in the early 1900s. From that time until 2000, tobacco and wheat were the main crops. In 2000, the family decided to diversify, and planted their first strawberry crop. The first harvest of Chandler strawberries (1 and 1/3 acres) was in May 2001. Twenty-five years later, we now grow 17 acres of strawberries. The family stopped growing tobacco in 2004 so they could concentrate on growing their strawberry and produce business. In 2005, they began growing greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. In 2024, we opened our new farm store, located at 4029 Hicone Road, Greensboro. Our farm store is open 6 to 7 months a year during the spring, summer, and fall growing seasons. We are located just outside the city of Greensboro and less than 1/2 mile from Highway 29. Our location uniquely affords many customers the experience of setting foot on a family farm and seeing agriculture in action, bringing “farm-to-table” to life for adults and children alike, but with the convenience of staying close to home to find fresh, locally-grown produce.
Currently Kenneth, Joan, their sons Ken and Matt, and Matt’s wife Chelsey are all involved in the day-to-day farming operations. Joan came to the farm full-time in 2006 after retiring from public work. Matt joined the farming operation in 2007 after graduating from college, and Ken joined the operation full time in 2013, after many years as a landscaper. Matt’s wife Chelsey joined the farm in 2021, after working for the school system for seven years. The grandchildren, other relatives and friends all help at the farm during the busy season.
