Self-reported practices. This farm has provided information about their practices, but they have not yet been independently verified by Bhumi.
The buildup of adrenaline in high stress animals causes sour and tough meat. Our animals are treated with care and dignity, and socialized with humans so much that they mostly act like pets. This low stress environment creates the tastiest, tenderest meat you can find. Using Permaculture practices such as multi-species grazing, rotational grazing, native plant seeding, and a closed system with minimal inputs, our aim is to build organic matter in the soil, improve the grazing plant health, and thereby improve animal health and nutrition. Industrialized farming has created a severe lack of genetic diversity and one size fits all mentality. Heritage breeds need to be maintained for the health of the overall food system, and because each breed is best suited for a particular use and environment. Come stay in the tranquil beauty of the Maryland countryside, conveniently located just 10 minutes from the heart of Westminster. Here you can cuddle with the cows, hang out with the hogs, and chill with the chickens. A family-run, working small farm, built in the 1800s, we are dedicated to improving the land, soil, plants, and wildlife, through Regenerative Agriculture with all-natural, chemical, hormone, anti-biotic, and GMO-free methods. We raise and breed Rare Heritage Livestock in a conservation program to keep these genetic lines alive and diverse. Several of our breeds are listed on the Slow Foods Ark of Taste. Our farm practices invite loads of wildlife, including herons, fox, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, deer, bald eagles, red-tailed hawk, and more. Seth’s tour of the farm was very informative and made me think about the way we eat. Tried the T-Bone and Sirloin steaks for dinner. The Red Devon Beef was amazing! We highly recommend it. We also enjoyed Stephanie’s sourdough bread. We will definitely be taking food for the road along with us! We love supporting other local homesteaders! We have quite a few that have reached out to us recently asking to advertise to our customers as they don't have products we would necessarily keep in our store.
