Sustainable farming and agriculture is one of the cornerstones of Liberty Delight Farms. It is of utmost importance to us to be able to have a thriving agricultural business while keeping the priorities of environmental awareness and animal welfare at the forefront. Using techniques that protect the environment, we are able to reduce air, soil and water pollution while conserving energy. We consider it our responsibility and duty to provide our communities with local, all natural food free of growth stimulants and antibiotics. We treat our animals with care and respect and allow them to engage in natural behaviors where they can move about freely. It is important to us that they are happy and living the best life possible! Our farm is nestled on historic property in Reisterstown, Maryland. There are natural streams and springs running throughout our 80 acres that feed into the Liberty Reservoir. It is important to us to preserve these natural water sources and the water quality on our property. We voluntarily participated with the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Water Quality Program which has enabled us to protect our water quality while providing our livestock with fresh natural spring water. We installed stream crossings for livestock and also limited their accessibility by fencing off 20,000 linear feet of stream banks. We also built gravity watering systems which provide our animals with fresh spring water that flows freely from the streams on the farm. There is something to be said when you are driving past a farm and see animals grazing freely with not a care in the world! Liberty Delight Farms claim to Fresh Meat, Raised Right is genuine, justifiable and authentic. Our animals have unlimited access to the outdoors, fresh air and clean, natural spring water. By providing them with pasture and forest land, it allows them to live in an environment conducive to their needs and engage in natural behaviors. Environmentally by rotating pastures, we are able to help conserve the soil, reduce erosion and water pollution. We are also able to eliminate waste management problems as our animals fertilize the soil naturally with their manure! Animals raised in open pasture and woodlands enjoy a much higher quality of life than those confined in “factory farms”. Animals living in restricted spaces are more prone to disease, injury and stress. Documentation shows that for the consumer, pasture raised meats have lower levels of saturated and total fats as well as higher levels of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. The end result is tastier and more nutritious meat! In an effort to reduce our fossil fuel energy use, we partnered with Sunnyside Solar Energy to install a 31 kilowatt solar photovoltaic system on the farm. The solar panels were installed and covered the entire roof of the barn. The solar cells in these panels convert sunlight directly into electricity. The advantages of this system are that it generates no pollution nor greenhouse gas emissions once it is installed. The electricity produced is clean and silent! The system doesn’t release any harmful air or water pollution into the environment. Most importantly, our solar energy system doesn’t deplete natural resources or endanger animal/human health. We are happy to report a 90% reduction in our fossil fuel energy use! At Liberty Delight Farms, there is a direct relationship between our animals and the people who care for them. Frequent physical contact allows us to quickly spot an animal with illness and it also minimizes their stress having the same people feeding and handling them. We do not raise more animals than our land can support and we operate on a pasture based system. Our animals roam freely and engage in natural behaviors like grazing, rooting and pecking. They reproduce on their own without any use of artificial insemination or invitro fertilization. We believe in letting nature take its course! Our animals eat a high- quality feed and we know th
