Great Country Farms

Great Country Farms is a 400 acre working farm situated at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside the village of Bluemont, VA. Great Country Farms offers produce as well as the farm experience to its customers. The Zurschmeide Family has been farming in Loudoun County since the 1970s and Great Country Farms was started by the second generation of Zurschmeides in Loudoun in 1993. The farm started with a Community Supported Agriculture Program (CSA) which grew over the years and delivered produce to homes as far as Alexandria and Arlington. In 1996 and again in 2007, the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce voted Great Country Farms, “Agribusiness of the Year” for its unique efforts to farm in a difficult climate through innovation, rather than selling out and growing houses. We are thrilled to still be a family farm in our growing county! We owe it all to Farmer Bob for instilling a love of farming in us. We were devastated to lose our patriarch in June of 2022 and though he is with us in spirit and in our hearts, we all miss his guidance and wisdom. Over the years, we have added a Virginia Farm Winery,Bluemont Vineyardand plow to pint craft brewery,Dirt Farm Brewing, above the farm on the mountain. Join on the mountain after picking and playing on the farm. As our farm grows, we are thrilled to welcome the next generation of Zurschmeides in the fields, running the tasting rooms, making Kettle Corn, and training the pigs for the Annual Oinkintucky Derby Pig Races of course! We welcome you to visit our farm, pick some incredibly fresh produce, create some memories and begin your own farm adventure as part of our farm family. Mark Zurschmeide, CFO Mark oversees all aspects of the farm from growing produce, maintaining the deer fence and daily operations to new business development. Farmer of Fun. Kate works on marketing, events, company picnics and communication. She also supports the farm market team and the team for The Stable at Bluemont Vineyard for weddings and private events at Bluemont Vineyard. Kate also  focuses on community outreach and connections. Debbie Zurschmeide-Schoeb, CEOChief Experience Orchestrator. Debbie is our Company Commander at Great Country Farms.  Hospitality and guest experiences are Debbie’s focus and you will find her everywhere from the hosting Baby Dino Shows, making coffee in the bakery or welcoming school children with 5 star customer care.
