Dixie Does Alpines started in 1994 with two bred American Alpine doelings named Maire and Gabriela. Both foundation does earned permanent champion status, excellent appraisals, Best in Show wins, and lactations exceeding 3,000 lbs. Bill and Becky Ensinger run the farm on 6 acres in Dayton, Tennessee, raising registered American Alpines for raw goat milk, artisan cheeses (fromage blanc, feta, mozzarella), and handmade goat milk soaps. Every bar of soap is made with milk from their own herd using natural ingredients — essential oils, activated charcoal, oatmeal, coffee grounds, even beer. The farm uses no synthetic chemicals, runs on solar power, and is Certified Naturally Grown. Raw milk is available April through December via herd share ($10 one-time share fee, $3/quart or $5/half gallon). Find them at the Brainerd Farmers Market (Chattanooga, Saturdays) and Ooltewah Farmers Market (Thursdays), plus a dozen retail locations across Tennessee and online at dixiesoaps.com.
