There's something about this land that just slows you down right where you are, and makes you realize we were created for a purpose. I started this farm, not from a place to grow to a commercial scale, but to produce crops and animals in a way that finishes products I want my family to eat. We feel the slow way, the least processed way, in a way that continually restores the land, is the right way. We're stewards of this patch of earth and we want to leave it better than we found it. The Kelly family purchased Rock House Farm in 2005 and opened the creamery in 2016 on a 100-acre dairy in Newborn that the Johnston family operated since the 1940s. Our Jersey-Holstein herd produces A2 creamline milk — pasteurized at just 145°F and bottled within 36 hours. We craft artisan cheeses like Clack's Chapel aged cheddar, Nanny Moon's Gouda, and Concord Tomme using vegetable rennet, hand-turning each wheel until it develops a natural rind. Our Devon-Angus cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, and our Berkshire hogs are raised in open woods and pasture. Two heirloom corn varieties — Hickory King and Bloody Butcher — are milled fresh daily in our grist mill.
