Diversified Family Farm
Veteran Owned | Pastured Poultry
Southern Sunny Acres is a Veteran family-owned farm that was established in 2021 with the mission to provide nutritious, wholesome pasture raised proteins for the local East Texas community. Our farm is named in honor of our grandparents’ Nebraska farm, Sunny Acres. Sunny Acres provided fresh vegetables that were sold at the local Farmer’s Market every weekend. Getting to experience farm-fresh produce and providing it to the local community struck a passion in our young hearts to do the same. We love to nurture, watch, and help animals and plants grow as God intended. We have spent over 10 years learning all we could about sustainable, regenerative agriculture; through our years of study, we realized that we can do farming without chemicals by letting nature fertilize, protect, and grow with some assistance from us. We believe that the food we eat can and should contain the nourishment that our bodies need and crave. We recognized that the processed foods readily found on the shelves provide little to no nutrition, leaving a big need for locally produced food that can heal our bodies. At Southern Sunny Acres, we want to make this nourishment readily available and provide it to our community. In addition to providing nutritious sustenance to the community, we desire to regenerate the soil using nature to create growth and regrowth in the soil, food, and animals on our farm. We believe in no -icide, regenerative agricultural practices; this means we do not use any chemicals, pesticides, or herbicides. Southern Sunny Acres is owned by Ty and Tokie Morgan. Our passion for nutritious, wholesome food is something we have shared together since our marriage in 2006. We would dream about the day when we could grow our own vegetables, produce our own meat, and take care of the land. We soon realized that we needed to share our passion for health with our family, friends, and community. The dream grew, and in 2019 we were blessed to purchase land, and Southern Sunny Acres became a reality in 2021. Our family is composed of three important parts: Ty the farm muscle, Tokie the farm brain, and Goliath the farm supervisor (AKA the dog). Ty retired from the Army after 23 years of service; he spent the majority of his career in Army aviation and has a zeal for flying. Upon retirement, Ty decided to pursue an engineering degree at the University of Texas in Tyler, a degree that comes in very handy when operating a farm. Most farms require another source of income when first starting, so Tokie is currently working full-time off-farm for a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics non-profit organization. In the past, Tokie worked for the military assisting units with deployments and experience in human resources. She excels in project management and organization, strengths needed for the not-so-glamorous farm bookwork. Goliath became a part of the family in 2007 and has quickly taken up his role as top dog on the farm. His basic duty is greeting guests who come to the farm. Otherwise, you’ll find him sleeping or occasionally chewing on a chicken foot, one of his favorite treats. Both Ty and Tokie grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and our families were both involved in agriculture, from agricultural sales to animal husbandry to growing vegetables in the family gardens. We have a love for enhancing our knowledge of well-being and nutrition. As producers, we are continuing a co-evolution with the plants and animals we call our food. We assist them with bringing out the fullest expression of their potential, and they in turn help us bring out the fullest expression of ourselves. We can’t wait to share our knowledge and love for all things healthy with you and your family.
