What started as a small town butcher shop in 1946 has grown into an award-winning, USDA-inspected plant supplying restaurants, businesses and local families the best local cuts. We are proud to be a fourth-generation, family-owned meat processing company. For 79 years we have provided our customers with delicious, high-quality meats at an unbeatable value. We are blessed with a wide variety of customers: families who grocery shop in our retail store, restaurants and organizations that rely on us for delicious meat items for their menus and farmers that trust us to custom process their animals for their customers. Our commitment to exceptional service can be seen in every sale. We thank God for the provision of work to do and excellent staff to accomplish it. We’ve been on the same block in downtown Byron Center since day one, so we take great pride in giving back to our local community. Whether we are handing out hotdogs at the Byron Days Festival, sponsoring Little League ball teams, purchasing a 4H market animal at a local fair or donating to local food pantries, BCM stays involved in our community by promoting small-town values and great food choices. As a family-owned, local business, Byron Center Meats understands that community support is key to a vibrant city. We are glad to support a variety of local schools, ministries and organizations. To insure that contributions are used for the intended purposes, certain standards have been established for the granting of donations to federally recognized charitable 501C-3 organizations and educational groups only. Complete the form and submit it, allowing at least three weeks for us to respond in writing to your request. Pork & Lamb Processing Coordinator Byron Center Meats Through The Years In April 1946 Gerald and Gert Sytsma built a meat locker plant in Byron Center, MI. They paid $300 for the lot. Sysco Food Service of Grand Rapids was looking for a supplier that could provide them with fresh cut steaks to be distributed by Sysco to hotels, restaurants, and institutions throughout Michigan. A fire on July 22, 2007, destroyed our retail store, offices, and some production spaces. With help from contractors, vendors, and employees, we set up temporary spaces and were back in production in 3 days. After the fire in 2007, we built a 13,000 square foot addition that includes new processing rooms, coolers, freezers, offices and of course the retail store. Annual Producers Meeting March, 2014 – “The BCM/MSU Roadshow” took over 100 livestock producers to Michigan State University's Meat Science Lab for pork cutting demonstrations and tours of the working farms on campus.
