Mixed Livestock Farm
Broken Bones Farm
What happens when a lesbian farmer has some some down time? She grows, cures, carves, paints, and sells apple gourd birdhouses, naturally. These birdhouses are made from the very aptly named apple gourd. The plants are wildly productive and many roughly apple shaped gourds are produced over a long growing season. Once dried, these gourds can be hollowed out and make a really lovely nesting space for our flying friends. Our apple gourd birdhouses have a 1.5" entrance are ideally suited for Eastern Bluebirds, Carolina Wrens, and some species of Swallows who don't mind nesting lower to the ground. Hang 6 to 10 feet off the ground with the opening facing away from any prevailing winds. Hang by the start of spring for the best chance of having your apple gourd birdhouse selected for building a nest!Fun fact about Eastern Bluebirds: They are great to attract to your garden and around your home because they primarily eat insects and are territorial to a point of scaring away other bird species more inclined to feast on your vegetables and fruits. Happy birding your favorite nerdy queer farmers!!
